Position Summary

We are currently seeking dedicated and experienced Chief Marine Engineers to join our team. This role is primarily based in Nelson, New Zealand, and entails a trip on, trip off schedule with trips spanning 2 to 6 weeks. Working hours are organized in 12-hour shifts. PPE and meals are provided onboard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the mechanical and electrical performance of the fishing vessel's propulsion, fishing, processing, and auxiliary systems effectively and safely.
  • Demonstrate proactive maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure systems operate efficiently while at sea.
  • Work independently with excellent problem-solving capability and commitment toward preventive maintenance routines.
  • Collaborate closely with a tight-knit crew to maintain operational safety and team cohesion during voyages.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum qualifications of MEC 4 and MEC 3 tickets appropriate for the Chief Engineer position.
  • Proven experience operating as a Marine Engineer aboard deep-sea fishing vessels.
  • Strong work ethic with a positive, can-do attitude and the ability to follow rules and instructions strictly.
  • Ability to work resiliently under conditions at sea and respect towards team members and the marine environment.
  • Legal entitlement to live and work in New Zealand.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and physical medical assessment.
