Clinical Project Manager Assistant (Remote Contract)

About the Role

This position supports clinical trial management with a focus on clinical research images and data, operating under the guidance of a Project Manager. The Clinical Project Manager Assistant helps coordinate reader tasks, maintain thorough study documentation, and assures the precision and quality control of clinical trial imaging and data collection. This opportunity allows involvement in innovative ophthalmology research within a mission-centric team.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist Project Manager with daily clinical trial operations including collection and documentation of clinical images and data.
• Maintain proactive communication with clinical sites, sponsors, and research organizations on study details and imaging needs.
• Support study initiation by distributing site forms and coordinating certification activities.
• Track and verify receipt of all clinical images and testing materials to ensure data completeness.
• Organize certification and other reader assignments to meet project timelines.
• Oversee site technician certification status and monitor submission of grading materials.
• Respond to data queries promptly and escalate issues when necessary.
• Prepare and carry out quality control reviews, including data reconciliation tasks.
• Perform data entry, source verification, document filing, and other clerical functions supporting study activities.
• Provide assistance across the reading center team to manage multiple simultaneous studies.
• Participate in internal meetings and study calls to stay updated and facilitate communication.
• Provide backup coverage for Project Managers during absences, handling tasks such as patient screening and sponsor correspondence.
• Help onboard new Project Manager Assistants by sharing process knowledge.
• Maintain well-organized study files and contribute to process improvement efforts.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of administrative support experience in a professional setting.
• At least 1 year of clinical research experience preferred but not mandatory.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong attention to detail with accurate data entry skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities for diverse stakeholders.
• Sound judgment and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
• Adaptability in dynamic work environments with changing priorities.
• Quick learner of new software and systems.
• Ability to organize, prioritize workload, and meet tight deadlines.
• Capability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Preferred Additional Qualifications

• Previous clinical research or trial operations experience highly desired.
• Experience working with clinical imaging or functional test data advantageous.
• Interest in ophthalmology, retinal imaging, or medical research to support patient care advancements.
• Willingness to assist in training new team members via sharing best practices.
• Motivation to develop expertise in clinical research methodologies and imaging endpoints.
• Commitment to quality, accuracy, and ongoing process enhancement.

Working Conditions

This is a fully remote contract role with standard work hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Candidates must reside in North Carolina, near Durham, to attend occasional onsite training and in-person events. The role operates within a research-driven environment dedicated to advancing therapies for ocular diseases through multicenter clinical trials, requiring collaboration with medical and research professionals and extensive handling of digital image data and clinical documentation.

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly pay ranges between $24 and $26.
