About the Role
We are seeking a Data Engineer specialized in Geo Operations to lead technical implementations involving Geo partners. This role centers on managing and designing intricate data systems and pipelines, being the primary partner advocate during product feature prioritizations, and collaborating closely with internal product teams and external collaborators. The main objective is to develop and maintain dependable data pipelines that facilitate accelerated creation and curation of vector-based geospatial data products.
The team tackles essential operational challenges related to data processing, tracking, and quality assurance, aiming to enhance pipeline scalability, reliability, minimize manual tasks, and expedite data delivery for Google Maps. The role employs best practices in data engineering utilizing Google’s internal and Cloud infrastructures to build and oversee ETL functions. Integration and management of industry-standard geospatial tools alongside Google technologies are key components, including an internal innovation axis exploring AI applications to boost capabilities.
This Data Engineer position supports the Geo team's mission to craft the most precise and comprehensive mapping services across products like Maps, Earth, Street View, and Google Maps Platform, impacting over a billion monthly users globally. The team also empowers developers to leverage Google Maps capabilities to enhance their applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and scale durable data pipelines and shared frameworks for the data engineering and operations teams.
- Create and maintain data models, pipelines, and exchange formats that enable delivery, visualization, and analysis of geospatial datasets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and operational teams to analyze data, develop requirements, and disseminate data for informed decision-making.
- Provide support to clients by maintaining reports, queries, and dashboards, and assist in planning system migrations and dependency adjustments.
- Facilitate product launches by identifying and reducing operational risks, streamlining workflows, and enhancing partner satisfaction via automation and self-service tools.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 3 years of programming experience in one or more languages.
- 3 years of experience with data infrastructure and data modeling through exploratory querying and scripting.
- 3 years of experience in designing data pipelines and dimensional data models for synchronous and asynchronous system integration, utilizing both internal (e.g., Flume) and external (e.g., DataFlow, Spark) technologies.
- Experience collaborating with external technical partnership teams or working in client-facing roles.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of experience in stakeholder management and collaboration, including engagement with users, partners, and customers.
- Experience handling geospatial data or working with geographic information systems like ESRI or Safe Software.
- Proven ability to influence and align cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders to accomplish objectives.

This position offers a competitive salary range in Ireland of €94,000 to €96,500 annually, supplemented by a 15% bonus target, equity participation, and benefits. The compensation is determined based on relevant skills, experience, and educational background.
