Role Overview

The Electrical Apprentice position offers a dynamic, hands-on learning environment within Contact Energy's Hydro Maintenance team. You will engage in varied activities such as electrical equipment maintenance at hydro generation sites, outage support, machine testing, and site visits across the South Island. This apprenticeship combines practical trade training with formal education to build a solid foundation for a career in the energy industry. You will work closely with experienced electricians, fitters, and technicians, gaining exposure to electrical maintenance, operational duties, work control procedures, plant monitoring, and mechanical maintenance tasks.

Candidate Profile

This role suits individuals eager to embark on or switch to a career in electrical trade work within the energy sector. Essential qualities include curiosity, reliability, a strong work ethic, enthusiasm for learning, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. A genuine interest in electrical trades, willingness to travel across the South Island as needed, and possession of a full driver's license are required. While previous experience in technical or trade environments, NCEA qualifications, or physically demanding work is beneficial, it is not mandatory. Commitment to completing the apprenticeship is vital.
