About AirTrunk
AirTrunk stands as the largest and fastest expanding data centre provider in the Asia Pacific & Middle East (APME) region, dedicated to supporting the region's digital transformation with next-generation hyperscale data centres. Since inaugurating Australia's premier hyperscale data centres in 2017, AirTrunk has grown rapidly across the APME region backed by investors such as Blackstone, continuing to build a platform of sustainable and scalable data centres for major cloud, content, and enterprise customers.
Role Overview
As the Energy & Utility Manager based in Singapore, reporting directly to the Director of Energy & Utility, you will lead efforts shaping and executing the energy strategy essential for AirTrunk’s ongoing expansion. Collaborating closely with the Energy and Technology team, and interfacing with elite global internet and technology companies, your work will significantly influence how energy is sourced and consumed across AirTrunk's operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead negotiations and engagement with power utilities and transmission networks to secure adequate capacity for new and growing data centre projects, focusing primarily on Malaysia and extending to Southeast Asia.
- Coordinate power feasibility evaluations and grid connection studies with external consultants and local utility providers.
- Manage energy procurement activities including supplier selection, tariff optimization, price analysis, and participation in demand response programs.
- Oversee utility grid connection processes—covering load forecasts, application submissions, and managing connection cost budgets.
- Negotiate and manage retail electricity supply agreements using varied contracting methods to effectively balance cost and risk.
- Support strategies for renewable energy sourcing and broader sustainability programs consistent with customer expectations.
- Build and sustain strong partnerships with utilities, retailers, technical advisors, and other stakeholders.
- Potentially broaden oversight to additional locations such as South Korea, Taiwan, and forthcoming AirTrunk markets.
- Engage actively with grid utilities and energy retailers on capacity, connection updates, and contractual matters.
- Plan and lead energy-related projects including grid connections, retail supply, and renewable procurement initiatives.
- Collaborate with customers and internal teams such as Design, Site Selection, and Development to align energy solutions with needs.
- Prepare and deliver clear reports and presentations in various formats including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Participate in regular team meetings and provide progress updates.
Candidate Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years professional experience with 3 to 5 years specifically in roles related to power utilities, grid planning, grid connection processes, and technical submissions within the data centre sector.
- In-depth knowledge of energy markets in Southeast Asia.
- Strong analytical skills combined with strategic thinking, comfortable handling data analysis and delivering presentations particularly using PowerPoint and Excel.
- Familiarity with interpreting electrical drawings is advantageous.
- High motivation for continuous learning and development within the role.
