Role Overview

At Ledcor, highway maintenance teams are essential in ensuring the safety of road users throughout the year. The Highways Patroller role involves overseeing highway conditions, spotting and reporting issues, addressing hazards, and aiding maintenance tasks while adhering to contractual standards. This job merges autonomous fieldwork, public safety attention, accurate data logging, and practical maintenance duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out regular patrols and inspections of highways following specified performance and response guidelines.
• Evaluate, document, and report on road conditions, hazards, and infrastructure faults.
• Log defects using digital tools such as tablets and electronic reporting systems.
• React swiftly to emergencies, incidents, or dangerous conditions that may affect motorists.
• Inspect highway features including signage, road surfaces, lighting, and guardrails thoroughly.
• Conduct minor upkeeps on patrols, such as clearing debris, fixing signs, and mitigating hazards.
• Relay maintenance concerns and defect details to supervisors and operations personnel.
• Support maintenance crews with various highway upkeep responsibilities.
• Contribute to emergency operational efforts as necessary.
• Uphold Ledcor's dedication to health, safety, and environmental responsibility.

Candidate Qualifications

• Possess a valid Class 5 driver's license with an unblemished driving history.
• Comprehensive knowledge of highway infrastructure elements like road surfaces, signs, and guardrails.
• Strong observational skills with keen attention to detail.
• Proficient in using tablets, mobile gadgets, and electronic field reporting tools.
• Capable of working independently and exercising sound judgment in field conditions.
• Excellent organizational abilities, documentation accuracy, and effective time management.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to operate outdoors amid various weather and road environments.

Work Environment

• The position primarily involves outdoor tasks exposed to changing weather throughout the year.
• Work schedules are shift-based reflecting operational demands.
• Shifts may include evenings, nights, weekends, and emergency responses during weather or other incidents.
• Travel is required across assigned highway maintenance zones.
