Position Summary

The Laboratory Assistant in Specimen Processing is responsible for handling blood and other laboratory samples, sorting and troubleshooting specimen issues, supporting LHSC team members, and entering requisition data. This permanent full-time role is based onsite at the Dynacare laboratory in Kelowna, BC.

Schedule and Location

• Permanent full-time position (37.5 hours per week)
• Workdays: Monday to Friday
• Shift hours between 7:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
• 100% onsite at Leon Ave facility in Kelowna, British Columbia

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional customer service by engaging with clients regarding Dynacare’s products and services
• Enter patient and test information into the system accurately, complying with Ministry of Health requisition requirements
• Handle blood and other specimens with care aligned with the company’s mission and values
• Sort and direct specimens to appropriate analytical departments
• Ensure specimen handling follows standard operating procedures and proper documentation is complete
• Maintain confidentiality of all patient information securely
• Contribute to achieving departmental quality metrics and regulatory compliance standards

Qualifications and Skills

• Certification as CSMLS or BCSLS or graduation from an MLA program accredited by BCSLS or an equivalent Canadian body
• Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific or health field, or international MLA/MLT credentials, plus at least one year of specimen processing experience may also be considered
• Customer-focused approach with genuine concern for patients’ health
• Competence in phlebotomy including managing patient anxiety during sample collection in a calm and reassuring manner
• Strong ability to prioritize and independently manage tasks in a deadline-driven environment
• Keen attention to detail
• Proficient in English, able to convey clear instructions verbally and in writing

Compensation

Hourly pay rate ranges from $27.00 to $30.75, with final offer based on experience and education.
