Laboratory Technologist

Job Overview

This role supports the Consultant Microbiologist in executing a broad range of microbiology laboratory tasks. The position involves preparing samples, carrying out automated procedures that do not require professional judgment, and compiling documentation for review. Additionally, the incumbent provides guidance to healthcare staff and patients regarding specimen collection protocols and assists in laboratory clerical functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Consultant Microbiologist by performing various microbiology-related laboratory activities and preparation steps.
• Conduct automated technical procedures that do not involve complex analysis or decision-making.
• Prepare written reports, procedural documents, and correspondence drafts for approval by the Consultant Microbiologist.
• Provide instructions to nursing staff, physicians, and patients on proper specimen collection and submission criteria.
• Manage basic clerical tasks such as specimen preparation and maintaining operational records.
• Foster positive relationships with colleagues, other county employees, and the public through effective customer service practices.
• Offer assistance and mentorship to laboratory colleagues, assistants, new employees, and trainees as necessary.
• Perform cleaning and disinfection duties for work surfaces, biosafety cabinets, instruments, and equipment.
• Maintain updated instrument logs, including temperature and airflow systems, conduct maintenance checks, and report malfunctions to relevant departments.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification.
• Possession of a valid Dubai Health Authority (DHA) license as a Laboratory Technologist is mandatory.
• Two to three years of experience working in hospitals or clinics within the GCC region.
• Demonstrated experience in managing pediatric patient specimens.
