Lead, Data Governance

Role Overview

This position leads the central team tasked with ensuring all corporate entities maintain accurate, consistent, and accessible high-quality data across approximately 120 data domains and 870 data families. The role oversees implementing data governance in digital use cases and digital data platform operations to safeguard data integrity and support informed decision-making. It also involves developing and executing the organization's data governance strategy and advising leadership on data governance solutions and challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive the deployment of the enterprise-wide data governance framework, strategic initiatives, and roadmap.
• Lead the adoption of governance practices within AI, advanced analytics, digital use cases, and data platform operations.
• Develop and maintain solutions that manage data governance effectively.
• Promote data literacy and upskilling across the organization.
• Define policies, standards, and guidelines for data governance and ensure compliance and adoption.
• Manage an operational budget and data investments, including overseeing an annual budget of approximately USD 2 million.
• Lead and oversee a team with two direct reports and manage five service contracts.
• Collaborate closely with digital teams, department focal points, leadership, data owners, and data stewards.

Specific Activities

• Manage and enhance enterprise data governance maturity, including setting yearly improvement goals.
• Represent data management teams and enterprise data stewards at leadership meetings and steering committees, presenting on data value and governance.
• Implement data governance controls in AI initiatives, define operating boundaries, and ensure responsible scaling of AI across the organization.
• Supervise digital use case onboarding to governance tools, ensuring monitoring of data usage, quality, and accountability.
• Lead master data management scope for digital use cases by defining quality assurance measures.
• Ensure adherence to data certification standards, validating data alignment during migrations or application changes.
• Configure data hierarchies, roles, catalogs, quality metrics, and business glossaries using industry standards, particularly Oil and Gas practices.
• Prioritize and maintain controls on data quality to minimize risks, work with entities to identify issues, and report progress to senior management via councils and steering committees.
• Develop policies, procedures, and guidelines relevant to data management needs and monitor adherence throughout the company.
• Enhance metadata standards and processes to sustain quality metadata and ongoing governance support.
• Upskill staff on data governance and management best practices.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Information Management, or an engineering/business-related field from an accredited institution.
• Over 10 years of experience in Data Management within Oil and Gas upstream/downstream operations and major capital projects.
• At least 5 years in leadership roles managing engineering information projects, including defining and implementing governance frameworks.
• Proven expertise in establishing data governance strategies, decision-making frameworks, and onboarding data stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience deploying scalable data governance technology including business glossaries, data lineage, and data quality solutions.
• Robust understanding of data solutions such as BI tools, data science platforms, data warehouses/lakes, master data management, and enterprise document management solutions.
• Experience in change management, program management, and stakeholder engagement.
• Knowledge of data integration methods, upstream and downstream data management requirements, database systems, EDMS solutions, BI technologies, application architectures, and information security principles.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
