Position Overview
The Maintenance Manager will lead the maintenance department to ensure optimal equipment reliability, maximize uptime, and support continuous production operations. This role is instrumental in new product launches, ramping up production, and maintaining steady-state processes through effective preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, equipment readiness, and ongoing improvement initiatives. Key objectives include minimizing downtime, enhancing equipment safety and efficiency, and meeting production KPIs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Establish and administer preventive and predictive maintenance programs for production systems and General Assembly (GA) equipment.
- Maintain equipment to meet stringent safety, quality, and operational standards.
- Oversee maintenance activities to optimize uptime and reduce unplanned outages.
- Create maintenance schedules aligned with production demands and launch timelines.
- Support equipment installation, commissioning, and readiness during new product introductions and production ramp-up phases.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering during equipment handover and validation stages.
- Lead acceptance testing and commissioning procedures for new equipment.
- Guide, mentor, and develop maintenance engineers, technicians, and specialists, managing resources effectively across production shifts.
- Enhance technical capabilities within the team to support advanced manufacturing technologies.
- Drive accountability and implement performance management strategies for the maintenance team.
- Monitor equipment metrics such as MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and MTTR (Mean Time To Repair) to improve reliability.
- Conduct root cause analyses of equipment failures using structured problem-solving methods and implement corrective actions.
- Lead continuous improvement projects to increase equipment efficiency and lifespan.
- Track and report maintenance KPIs including uptime, downtime, response times, and cost efficiency; devise plans to address performance gaps.
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations and promote a safety-first culture within the maintenance team and workplace.
- Maintain compliance with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) policies and standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Facilities teams to support manufacturing process improvements and design-for-manufacturing reviews.
Technical and Personal Skills
- Comprehensive understanding of automotive assembly equipment and associated systems.
- Expertise in preventive and predictive maintenance methodologies.
- Familiarity with PLC systems, automation, robotics, and industrial control technologies.
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and maintenance planning software.
- Proficient in analyzing equipment reliability data including MTBF and MTTR.
- Strong leadership qualities with capacity to develop and motivate technical teams.
- Analytical mindset with structured approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Capability to handle high-pressure scenarios especially during production launches and ramp-ups.
- Result-oriented mindset emphasizing ownership and accountability.
Additional Requirements
- Flexible to work off-shift hours and weekends during critical launch and ramp-up periods.
- Prior experience supporting new product launches and equipment commissioning is preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
- At least 8 to 10 years’ experience in maintenance engineering or manufacturing operations within automotive or similar high-volume production environments.
- Demonstrated success in equipment maintenance, reliability enhancement, and production support roles.
- Hands-on expertise with maintenance systems, automation equipment, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Proven leadership experience managing technical teams in a manufacturing setting.
