Production Engineer

Role overview

This is a full-time, on-site production engineering role based in Sachin, Surat, at the Ettle workshop. The position is centered on fabrication-led execution for industrial furniture and stainless-steel/modular systems, with responsibility from costing through fabrication, finishing, and quality control. The starting compensation is stated as up to ₹30,000 per month, depending on execution capability and responsibility.

Objective

The purpose of this role is to keep production running smoothly, accurately, and on schedule across the full workflow. Over time, the role also includes building working proficiency in engineering software used for documentation.

Production execution

• Understand technical drawings correctly and work with the design team to resolve doubts, clarify updates, and align execution.
• Monitor day-to-day fabrication for stainless steel and mild steel products, modular workstation systems, railings, tables, benches, utility structures, and custom project builds.
• Guide welders, fitters, grinders, bending operators, and polishing staff based on drawing requirements.
• Maintain the correct production sequence from cutting to bending, welding, grinding, assembly, finishing, and final quality check.
• Check fabrication accuracy during work, including angles, hole positions, pipe straightness, tolerances, and weld quality.
• Make sure the right jigs, fixtures, and fitments are used during manufacturing.
• Where relevant, verify integration of stone, wood, or PC elements in industrial products.

Costing and material planning

• Prepare detailed costing sheets for new orders and prototypes.
• Estimate fabrication time, finishing duration, hardware needs, and consumable usage.
• Track market prices for SS304, MS, and aluminum materials.
• Estimate raw material usage for pipes, sheets, plates, and laser-cut components.
• Raise internal material requirement notes for stores and coordinate procurement timing.
• Look for cost-saving improvements without affecting structural design or product intent.

Quality control and standards

• Create and apply quality checklists for different product families.
• Inspect incoming raw material for thickness, straightness, and visible defects.
• Review weld strength, finish consistency, penetration, bend radius accuracy, and assembly alignment.
• Confirm final dimensions before parts move to finishing.
• Check post-finish quality such as PVD or powder coating results, polishing consistency, and stone/wood installation quality.
• Approve finished items before dispatch.
• Maintain a strong zero-defect mindset on the shop floor.

Floor coordination and troubleshooting

• Act as the main point of coordination between design, fabrication, and finishing teams.
• Resolve shop-floor issues such as fit mismatches, tolerance problems, inaccurate parts, and fixture issues.
• Provide quick practical solutions so production continues without delay.
• Verify first-piece output before batch production begins.
• Support discipline, safety, and cleanliness on the floor.

Documentation and software development

• Maintain BOMs, fabrication notes, revision records, and cutting plans.
• Convert design intent into documentation that can be followed easily on the shop floor.
• Build capability over time in SolidWorks, Rhino, or AutoCAD for internal accuracy and documentation support.

Logistics and dispatch

• Oversee packing, loading, unloading, and safe dispatch of finished materials.
• Ensure proper labeling, batching, and packaging for client sites.
• Coordinate with logistics teams on delivery schedules, installation readiness, and protection of materials in transit.

Vendor and external coordination

• Coordinate outsourced work such as PVD, powder coating, laser cutting, bending, and waterjet services when required.
• Review vendor quotations and inspect service quality.
• Follow up closely to keep projects moving on schedule.

Systems, SOPs, and continuous improvement

• Build repeatable processes for product lines such as tables, benches, workstation modules, railings, and cabinets.
• Develop jigs and fixtures to improve repeat production accuracy.
• Maintain production logs, daily reporting, and manpower allocation records.
• Support the development of the company’s internal knowledge base.

Profile fit

The role is best suited to someone with a diploma or engineering background in Mechanical or Production Engineering, along with strong hands-on experience in stainless steel and mild steel fabrication. The job requires a floor-first, execution-focused mindset, comfort with physical shop-floor involvement, and a willingness to learn CAD and related engineering software over time. Good judgment on tolerances, jig logic, and structural thinking is important, along with discipline, accountability, communication, and the ability to work accurately under deadlines.
