Protective Services Officer II

Role Overview

The Protective Services Officer II is responsible for ensuring the security and safety of patients, visitors, staff, and facilities of Alberta Health Services. Key duties include monitoring, preventing, and intervening in violent situations; enforcing federal, provincial, and municipal laws; preventing asset loss; conducting internal investigations; preparing court documentation and securing evidence; assessing risks and hazards; managing arrests and detentions; and acting as a first responder during critical incidents. This position also supports departmental security policies, reviews and recommends policy enhancements, and maintains strong relationships with internal and external contacts to foster positive public relations.

Work Environment and Schedule

Located at the Lloydminster Continuing Care Centre, this regular full-time position involves multisite assignments. Shifts are structured as 12-hour rotations with a cycle of 8 weeks comprising 26 shifts. The pattern follows 4 days on followed by 4 days off, covering days, evenings, nights, weekends, and on-call periods, with days off scheduled on a rotating basis.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role spans from $40.15 to $45.99 per hour. A driver's license is required as a vehicle is provided for work-related duties.

Mandatory Qualifications

• Completion of high school or an equivalent certification.
• Eligibility or active appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement responsibilities per the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General standards.
• Successful completion of AHS or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks duration).
• Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) operator's license.
• Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed within 6 months prior to employment, with completion time under 4 minutes and 45 seconds.

Additional Requirements

• Alberta Class 5 driver's license or equivalent with no more than four demerits and free of charges or suspensions.
• Clear background including no unpardoned criminal records, no adverse investigations or misconduct as a Peace Officer.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum two years of relevant experience or related diplomas/degrees.
• Previous service in uniformed public roles or emergency services such as military, forestry, park ranger, corrections, or peace officer.
• Training certifications like CPI Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Pressure Point Control Tactics.
• Healthcare setting experience.
• Current First Aid and CPR Level C with AED certification.
