Scrum Master

Overview

This Scrum Master role is a 12-18 month contract position based primarily onsite in Wilmington, DE, supporting a significant modernization initiative targeting the transformation of customer experience and replacing legacy systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide servant leadership and mentoring across multiple agile teams involved in the modernization project.
• Facilitate and enhance team ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and retrospectives for Scrum and Kanban teams, accommodating team sizes from 7 to over 20 members.
• Manage dependencies and coordinate cross-team efforts to maintain smooth workflow, proactively notifying stakeholders, including executives, of delays, risks, or impacts.
• Leverage data insights and delivery metrics to spot and mitigate risks using tools like RAID logs and escalation mechanisms.
• Coach teams in advanced agile techniques such as user story development, story mapping, acceptance test-driven development, test-driven development, continuous integration, and effective communication methods to build self-organizing teams.
• Collaborate closely with Product Owners and technical leads on a Kanban data analytics/quality team utilizing Snowflake, and a major Scrum team focused on finance and legacy system analytics.
• Promote a culture centered on continuous improvement through transparency, collaboration, retrospectives, and tailored coaching content.
• Address and escalate blocking issues requiring cross-team attention to help teams stay focused and maintain visibility on workflow barriers.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• 5-6+ years participating in agile teams with at least 2 years as a Scrum Master, successfully applying Scrum and Kanban frameworks.
• Strong background in SAFe and scaling agile in enterprise settings, especially banking or regulated sectors, managing inter-team dependencies.
• Expertise using Jira, Confluence, Miro, with capability to work with Power BI for delivery data visualization.
• Proficient in analyzing team metrics such as throughput and flow to predict and mitigate delivery risks.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, experienced interacting with C-suite executives and influencing without direct authority.
• Experience in structured banking environments with focus on data analytics, quality initiatives, or modernization/migrations is highly preferred.
• Demonstrated skill in risk management, escalation, and cross-team coordination in dynamic projects.
• Deep understanding of agile best practices including accountability, data-driven improvements, and delivery discipline beyond basic ceremony facilitation.
