Position Overview
Located at 51 Kenmount Road, St. John’s, NL, this full-time role supports the Store Manager by overseeing daily store operations to ensure continuous and smooth service across all thrift store activities. When not supervising, the individual performs duties similar to a Sales Associate. The pay range is from $16.60 to $20.76 per hour, commensurate with experience and skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage positively and courteously with customers and donors.
- Safeguard the quality and integrity of all donated goods.
- Accurately complete all customer transactions involving cash and debit payments.
- Support achieving store financial goals through upholding excellent customer service standards.
- Handle store opening and closing procedures as required.
- Manage donation processing including loading, unloading, sorting, pricing, packing, and storing items.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of stock to respond to customer inquiries both in-person and via phone.
- Monitor and uphold store security by supervising activity within the premises.
- Ensure merchandise is handled safely and organized properly, assisting in stock rotation.
- Assist in inventory control by receiving, sorting, and pricing stock according to guidelines.
- Contribute to store layout design to draw customers, including window and merchandise displays, and maintain an attractive and tidy store appearance.
- Restock inventory based on supervisor directions and remove items from the sales floor as requested.
- Ensure proper sorting and processing of donations consistent with quality standards.
- Maintain cleanliness including tidying shelves, sweeping, dusting, and mopping.
- Comply with all store policies and procedures.
- Assist with inventory cycle counts and reconciliation.
- Deliver excellent service to guests and donors.
- Act as Team Lead/Working Supervisor for store associates in the absence of the Store Manager and may provide on-the-job training.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following all Health & Safety regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Environment
- Standard store setting requiring constant physical effort including lifting up to 30 pounds without assistance, bending, twisting, pushing, standing, and walking.
- Frequent exposure to dust, fumes, and temperature changes.
- Work involves meeting deadlines and managing interpersonal challenges with guests, donors, vendors, and coworkers.
- Tasks vary from repetitive to diverse.
- Safety shoes are mandatory at all times within store and donation receiving centre locations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completed some high school education.
- At least two years of experience in retail or warehouse environments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills suitable for teamwork.
- Physical capability to frequently lift and carry items up to 30 pounds independently.
- Attention to detail and adherence to safety, health, and operational policies.
- Willingness to understand and support The Salvation Army’s mission.
- Ability to successfully pass required background and screening checks.
Compensation
The starting wage ranges from $16.60 to $20.76 per hour with potential to reach up to $24.90 per hour depending on market conditions, experience, skills, and qualifications.
