Role Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the creation of robust, maintainable backend software for embedded Linux platforms, primarily using Rust.
• Architect and critically assess advanced software frameworks to maximize reusability and strengthen system reliability.
• Gain expertise in low-level communication protocols to handle real-time sensor data from equipment like bulldozers, excavators, and pavers.
• Partner with global engineering units to translate complex business requirements into scalable and effective technical solutions.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

• Proficient systems programming experience using C, C++, or Rust on Linux or equivalent embedded platforms.
• Comprehensive grasp of software engineering principles, including design patterns like SOLID and development best practices.
• Experienced with version control tools such as Git and expertise in troubleshooting complex software stacks.
• Strong communication skills capable of articulating technical information to international teams effectively.

Desirable Skills

• Hands-on embedded Linux development or familiarity with emerging system languages like Zig.
• Understanding of networking protocols such as CAN, TCP, HTTP, and WebSocket.
• Academic background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical discipline.

Working Details

This role is based in Christchurch, New Zealand and requires onsite attendance with no travel obligations.
