Role Overview
We are seeking a Staff Engineer to join the Absences team within the Time domain. This role is full-time and based in Berlin, Munich, or London, requiring two days per week onsite. The successful candidate will be pivotal in shaping the future of HR technology software, delivering direct impact by leading technical initiatives across teams in an expanding company aspiring to become a top global tech firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and guide the technical strategy and architecture for the absence management systems covering accruals, entitlement, and complex scenarios, establishing standards embraced by other teams.
- Deliver straightforward yet robust solutions to intricate domain and regulatory challenges, contributing substantially with production-level coding where critically needed.
- Lead comprehensive, cross-team technical projects ensuring timely quality delivery and overall accountability.
- Design architectures that cleanly manage regulatory complexities varying by market and company, including mandatory tracking and nuanced rules on breaks, overtime, and entitlements.
- Maintain accurate and reliable absence data integrations feeding into payroll systems, prioritizing data correctness and clarity throughout.
- Enhance operational standards relating to deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of services to ensure scalable, resilient processes while minimizing system complexity.
- Mentor senior engineers by providing design feedback, collaborative problem solving, and setting high technical standards.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Proven expertise in backend and distributed systems architecture and production delivery, especially where accuracy and reliability are critical.
- Ability to think systemically, understanding and designing how multiple services and teams interconnect through well-defined interfaces.
- Sound architectural judgement with a preference for simple, reliable, and efficient solutions in a complex, variable regulatory environment.
- Hands-on programming experience coupled with leadership in setting direction and standards.
- Experience leading and anchoring multi-team projects from conception through deployment and ensuring dependable outcomes.
- Strong focus on operational excellence, including continuous integration/deployment pipelines and service observability.
- Track record of mentoring and elevating engineering teams while fostering high standards and professional growth.
Working Conditions and Benefits
This position requires attending the office two days per week in your designated city with flexibility to work remotely the remaining days. Additionally, employees receive 20 Flex Days annually to work remotely from other locations.
