Role Overview

The Zoological Associate will support the safe and efficient day-to-day running of the Zoological Department at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi. The role centers on animal care, guest interaction, enrichment activities, public presentations, and research support.

This position involves standing for long periods and lifting or moving loads of up to 25 kg. It also requires working across changing shift patterns according to business needs, including opening, mid, and closing shifts, as well as nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Key Duties

  • Carry out daily animal care routines, including administering vitamins and medication when instructed.
  • Prepare feed, support proper nutrition, and provide consistent care for the animals.
  • Help maintain clean, safe, and suitable living conditions across all animal habitats.
  • Develop behavior management skills under the guidance of senior team members, including training behaviors to completion, maintaining learned behaviors, and building positive relationships with assigned animals.
  • Protect guests, colleagues, and animals by continuously observing signs of potentially unsafe behavior in both animals and people.
  • Offer attentive guest service through interactions, animal presentations, programs, and responses to visitor questions.
  • Take part in educational activities, public programs, and guest engagement experiences in the assigned area.
  • Record daily animal observations and escalate any unusual findings to the leadership team.
  • Keep animal records, equipment, assigned areas, and communication logs updated each day.
  • Represent the team with professionalism, cooperation, openness, reliability, and a positive attitude, while being receptive to feedback.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, manuals, and standard operating practices without exception.
  • Work safely at all times by using protective equipment, lifting correctly, and reporting hazards or unsafe situations.
  • Attend required training sessions and continue building professional skills and competencies.
  • Support additional tasks as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma or an equivalent qualification is required.
  • At least 1 year of relevant animal-related experience in a professional environment is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are necessary.
  • Excellent swimming and diving ability is required, except for Aviculture roles.
  • Basic numeracy skills are needed.
  • Working knowledge of computers, including MS Office and animal recordkeeping systems, is required.
  • For Dynamic Habitats/Aquarium: basic understanding of fish, reptile, amphibian, and invertebrate care, nutrition, and natural history.
  • For Aviculture: basic understanding of avian care, incubation principles, and related techniques.
  • For Marine Mammal roles: basic understanding of marine mammal care and training principles and techniques.
  • For Zoo Support & Rescue: basic understanding of marine mammal, avian, and reptilian husbandry, rescue, and rehabilitation techniques.
  • A college background in Psychology, Zoology, or Biology is preferred.
  • Open Water SCUBA certification is preferred, except for Aviculture.
  • CPR/AED certification is preferred.
