Adjunct Faculty - Fire Science

Position Summary

Roane State Community College is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member for the Fire Science program. This role involves teaching Fire Science courses both online via D2L Brightspace and in-person at the Oak Ridge and Knoxville - Hayfield campuses.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver instruction and actively engage students in course material.
• Perform assessments and grade student work accurately.
• Provide ongoing student support and maintain effective communication.
• Comply with all institutional policies and procedures.
• Use the Brightspace Learning Management System efficiently.
• Ensure instruction aligns with state and federal fire science regulations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in fire science or a closely related discipline.
• Possession of a valid Tennessee Fire Commission - Fire Instructor II Certification and Academy Credentialed Instructor certifications in Introduction to Fire and Emergency Services and Basic Firefighting.
• Successful completion of the Tennessee Fire Commission FO120-Conducting Live Fire Evolutions course.
• Familiarity with IAFC/NFPS 1010 standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong organizational and communication capabilities.
• Experience with classroom, office, laboratory, and field instruction.
• Physical capability to demonstrate or oversee fire service techniques.
• Proficient use of personal protective equipment during training.
• Willingness to travel to various training locations, fire departments, and partner agencies.
• Availability for evening or weekend teaching sessions when necessary.
• Strict adherence to safety protocols during live and practical training exercises.
