About the Role

Kia ora! Join Air New Zealand as an Android Mobile Engineer within our Customer Touchpoints team, designing and enhancing mobile experiences for millions of users nationwide and globally. This new position offers a unique opportunity to shape and scale our Android capabilities from the ground up as we accelerate towards becoming the world's leading digital airline.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and improve native Android apps utilizing Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of mobile features from initial concept through deployment and ongoing maintenance.
  • Collaborate actively with Product Managers, Designers, Quality Assurance, and fellow Engineers in an agile environment.
  • Participate in continuous integration and delivery pipelines, automated testing, and app submission procedures.
  • Ensure mobile solutions adhere to standards of performance, accessibility, security, and usability.
  • Identify and address technical debt to maintain and enhance product quality and sustainability.
  • Provide dependable application support and advocate for ongoing platform enhancements.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 2 years software engineering experience, including native Android development.
  • Proficiency in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose development frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of mobile application architecture, engineering patterns, and release workflows.
  • Experience with testing frameworks, CI/CD tools, and version control systems.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, mobile dependency management, observability practices, and crash analytics.
  • Knowledge of Agile or Lean methodologies within collaborative product teams.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or comparable practical experience.
  • Bonus: Familiarity with backend-for-frontend patterns and cloud technologies such as AWS.
