Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated Assistant Psychologist eager to gain practical experience in a Clinical Health Psychology environment, contributing to the clinical, research, and professional activities within our highly regarded department.

Team and Environment

The team includes clinical psychologists, psychological therapists, a family counsellor, and administrative staff. This position works closely with another Assistant Psychologist. Our department is deeply research-oriented, having published over 140 papers, often employing Assistant Psychologists who frequently advance to further professional training and offering placements for Clinical Psychology Trainees. We operate within a vibrant Trust Psychological Service encompassing 11 clinical services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with psychological health screening of inpatients at the National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC), including overseing and liaising with other spinal cord injury centers nationally to implement newly established psychological and complex mental health standards and pathways, under supervision.
  • Support assessment and treatment of spinal cord injury inpatients of all ages at NSIC under clinical psychologist supervision.
  • Assist in delivery of the Stoke Mandeville Spinal Needs Assessment and Goal Planning Programme, act as Keyworker for patients, and support routine data gathering and audits.
  • Help develop patient information materials and psychosocial education resources at NSIC.
  • Provide supervised mentorship and support to trainees, students on placement, or undergraduates undertaking work experience in the department.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

Applicants should hold a good degree in Psychology. Prior experience as an Assistant Psychologist or postgraduate clinical research experience is favorable but not required. Proficiency with Excel, SPSS, and statistical methods is essential.
