Job Overview

The Boiler Maker role primarily involves production welding, pipe rebuilding, fabrication, and ensuring quality standards are met. The job includes welding operations, maintaining production standards for fabricated strings, pipe refurbishment, shock subs, bit grinding, and rock tools servicing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Skillfully weld metal parts together with accuracy.
  • Prepare welding materials by cutting, grinding, and cleaning metals.
  • Execute full fabrication processes using metalworking skills.
  • Participate in fabrication planning, offering feedback on assembly sequences, design, materials, and fixtures.
  • Rebuild drilling pipes through welding tools.
  • Acquire and perform bit grinding techniques.
  • Learn to maintain and repair rock tools such as hammers and drill bits.
  • Possess or be able to obtain a Class C truck driving license; experience with HiAB operations is advantageous.

Physical Demands

The role requires frequent standing, sitting, twisting, manual dexterity for gripping and bending, occasional walking, stooping, pulling, and kneeling. The employee may lift loads between 35 to 75 pounds and reach both high and low positions.

Work Environment

Work takes place in both pit and workshop settings within a mining context. Exposure to high noise levels necessitating hearing protection, moving machinery, and mechanical components is common.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of professional welding and fabrication experience.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints including welding diagrams and symbols.
  • Proficient use of hand tools.
  • Familiarity with fabrication methodologies.
  • Willingness to learn bit grinding and rock tools repair including hammers and drill bits.
  • Valid Class C driver's license, with HiAB operation skills considered a plus.
  • Possession of a Trade Certificate, Diploma, or equivalent qualification.
  • Certification in Metal Fabrication or equivalent qualification.
