About the Role

Saffron Housing Trust is seeking a skilled Data Engineer to enhance and support their evolving data transformation journey. The position involves architecting and maintaining a robust Azure-based data warehouse solution, developing efficient data pipelines within Azure Data Factory, and facilitating the transition towards Microsoft Fabric technologies. Collaborating closely with BI analysts and other stakeholders, this role aims to deliver dependable, high-quality data that drives strategic decision-making and insightful analytics. The work arrangement offers a hybrid model with four days remote work and one day onsite in Long Stratton, Norwich.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and sustain a scalable data warehouse within Azure to accommodate current and anticipated analytics needs.
  • Lead efforts to introduce, adopt, and optimize Microsoft Fabric components such as Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Engineering, and Pipelines.
  • Implement continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines using Azure DevOps for automated deployment and environment control.
  • Establish data quality assurance procedures, monitoring, alerting, and pipeline observability to maintain platform stability.
  • Collaborate with data owners and analytics teams to define, document, and manage data definitions, lineage, and stewardship.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance on data engineering best practices to team members.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or an equivalent professional background.
  • Microsoft certifications related to SQL, Fabric, Power BI, or Azure Data Services are desirable.
  • Proficient in advanced SQL, particularly query optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with data pipeline and ETL/ELT toolsets such as Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Airflow, or Luigi.
  • Solid knowledge of data modeling principles.
  • Programming competency in Python and/or Scala for data processing tasks is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with machine learning pipeline implementation or MLOps frameworks is a plus.
