Entry Level Mechanical Engineer

About the Role

Daedalus invites applications for an entry-level Mechanical Engineer to join their Pittsburgh, PA operation. The role focuses on designing and developing products across diverse sectors such as medical, telecommunications, safety, and consumer goods. Occasional travel and off-site tasks may be required.

Daedalus encompasses multiple disciplines including user needs research, industrial and GUI design, software, and electrical engineering. The workplace values self-motivated individuals capable of functioning independently and collaboratively.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed product requirement documents.
• Assess product-related hazards and risks.
• Choose suitable materials, design components and assemblies, and implement joining methods like snap fitting, welding, bonding, and mechanical fasteners.
• Create test plans, perform measurement-based testing, and utilize statistical analysis to validate designs.
• Generate design concepts for client presentations through sketches, renderings, models, controlled drawings, and reports.
• Produce CAD layouts and detail drawings using Pro/Engineer and/or SolidWorks.
• Fabricate mechanical and electro-mechanical prototypes leveraging internal and external resources.
• Conduct analyses involving stress, statics, cost, and tolerance.
• Coordinate with external collaborators such as contract manufacturers and providers of OEM or commercially off-the-shelf parts.
• Exercise sound, insightful, and deliberate design decision-making.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) mandatory; Master's degree preferred.
• Familiarity with developing test plans and performing experiments for design verification including measurements and statistical data analysis.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software; experience with other CAD platforms advantageous.
• Preferred knowledge of plastic materials and injection molding processes.
• Additional familiarity with sheet metal fabrication and assembly methods is a plus.
• Knowledge of mechanical seals, sealing technologies, couplings, drivers, lubrication, and instrumentation systems is advantageous.
• Strong practical mechanical skills and hands-on shop experience.
• Ability to work autonomously with minimal oversight.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
