The Forward Deployed Engineer role is integral to Cohere's AI workspace platform called North. This platform enables enterprises to securely and flexibly deploy AI applications while managing sensitive data and integrating AI agents with existing workplace tools.

Role Responsibilities

• Collaborate with enterprise clients to transform complex, ambiguous business issues into structured agent workflows with clear goals and assessment methods.
• Lead the end-to-end development and delivery of AI agents powered by Large Language Models (LLMs) that interact with various tools, APIs, and sensitive data, ensuring enterprise-grade reliability.
• Develop features for North across its entire lifecycle, from ideation to production deployment.
• Manage the full scope of use cases, adapting to various technical requirements including frontend tasks as needed.
• Enhance shared engineering frameworks and methodologies to promote consistent, quality output throughout teams.
• Provide clarity during uncertain situations, harmonize team efforts, and elevate engineering standards across the organization.
• Travel up to 20-40% to engage directly with customers and partners on-site.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience creating and deploying robust Python applications with clean, scalable, testable, and observable code.
• Practical exposure to building Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and agentic AI applications that involve agents planning and executing complex multi-step tasks using strategies such as ReAct or Plan-and-Execute.
• Strong familiarity with the Large Language Model ecosystem including frontier models, vector databases, and orchestration systems.
• Skilled in establishing thorough evaluation frameworks to rigorously measure AI agent performance, accuracy, safety, and latency.
• Capable of leading technical discussions and collaborating directly with enterprise stakeholders to transform business needs into precise technical solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to own use cases comprehensively from conception through to production.
• Adept at thriving in fast-evolving and uncertain environments while maintaining effective execution.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience defining architectural standards for AI and agent-based systems across distributed teams.
• Flexibility to contribute in unfamiliar technical areas like frontend development when necessary.
• Background in regulated sectors such as finance, healthcare, or telecommunications.
• Understanding of enterprise security, compliance, and audit requirements for AI implementations.
