Role Overview

The Assistant Editor position involves creating and organizing offline editing projects, managing media assets, and supporting editors by maintaining workflow efficiency. Ideal candidates will quickly adapt to current systems and demonstrate strong organizational skills to support continual growth in creative editorial capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and understand shared media storage systems
  • Create and organize new projects using platforms such as Facilis, Box, Vandam, WD, and Aspera
  • Transfer files via Aspera, WireDrive, Box, Frame.io, Pix, and other media sharing tools
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in collaboration with editors
  • Maintain databases and logs of media assets
  • Transcode media files as needed
  • Respond to footage requests and assemble daily footage
  • Break down media content for editor use
  • Handle assets related to editorial, motion graphics, and final finishing
  • Generate export lists including EDLs, AAFs, and XMLs
  • Relink media and adjust aspect ratios appropriately
  • Perform overcutting and apply stringent quality control standards
  • Ensure understanding and handling of UHD and HD formats
  • Implement backup and archiving procedures for ongoing projects
  • Utilize proficiency with MacOS for media and project management

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years in an Assistant Editor role within a post-production environment
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and time management capabilities
  • Excellent problem-solving skills for on-the-spot troubleshooting
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
