About the Role and Company
Join DHL Global Forwarding, a leading international logistics company operating across more than 220 countries since 1969, specializing in air, sea, and road freight forwarding. We offer both standardized transport services and tailored end-to-end logistics solutions to clients worldwide. We are currently seeking a dedicated Import/Export Operations Specialist to join us at our Entebbe, Uganda location. In this role, you will be fully responsible for managing the entire import and export process, ensuring smooth and efficient execution from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and nurture long-term relationships with existing customers to sustain and grow business.
- Address customer inquiries and complaints promptly, escalating complex issues to supervisors when necessary.
- Provide timely updates to clients as per onboarding agreements.
- Deliver exceptional customer service efficiently and urgently.
- Assist the Head of Products in implementing system upgrades and changes within the CargoWise One (CW1) system.
- Coordinate shipment logistics from pickup to delivery, including liaising with shipping lines for exports.
- Book shipments with carriers and update booking details in CW1.
- Support Global Service Center (GSC) activities, ensuring comprehensive file management.
- Collaborate with the Customs Declaration Zone (CDZ) to prepare customs entries and facilitate clearance.
- Prepare and verify export documentation for accuracy and compliance.
- Manage Master Bill of Lading (MBL) and House Bill of Lading (HBL) processes following established procedures.
- Track shipments closely and follow up until delivery completion.
- Send pre-alert notifications to customers regarding shipments.
- Bill clients and close shipments in the CargoWise system once shipments are ready.
- Upload all relevant shipping documents into the CW1 electronic document system.
- Maintain milestone updates ensuring timelines and targets are met.
- Resolve exceptions and ensure all files are properly closed.
- Seek customer feedback and share best practices for continuous improvement.
Necessary Qualifications and Skills
- Strong understanding of AFR export and import products.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills.
- Highly results-driven and focused on achieving targets.
- In-depth knowledge of customs regulations.
- Ability to work accurately and timely under pressure.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in import/export operations.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- East African Freight Forwarders & Logistics Association (EAFFPC) certification is advantageous.
- Experience with CargoWise One software preferred.
