Role Impact
The Lead Inventory & Materials Supervisor plays a critical site-level leadership role overseeing inventory accuracy and material flow. This position entails managing site logistics with autonomy to ensure efficient, scalable operations impacting production continuity, financial integrity, and supply chain responsiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate on development and implementation of site material standard operating procedures aligned with corporate supply chain and finance goals.
- Oversee full lifecycle of materials at the site, optimizing space, prioritizing workflows, and allocating labor independently.
- Serve as liaison among Operations, Cost Accounting, Procurement, and Finance teams to maintain audit readiness and guarantee material availability.
- Lead and mentor shipping, receiving, and inventory staff promoting accountability, safety, and career growth.
- Develop and execute site-level cycle counting programs; analyze results to detect patterns and recommend process improvements.
- Manage physical inventory counts and partner with accounting to resolve discrepancies and implement corrective measures.
- Design warehouse layouts utilizing 5S and Lean methodologies to enhance storage efficiency and reduce handling.
- Supervise shipping, receiving, and cross-dock operations supporting multi-site logistics integration.
- Establish KPIs for materials team, conduct coaching and performance assessments to build an adaptable, high-performing team.
- Ensure safety compliance within material areas adhering to OSHA and company standards.
- Coordinate with procurement to adjust stocking and replenishment based on production needs and site constraints.
- Forecast requirements for consumables and non-BOM items to avoid supply disruptions.
- Lead projects to improve systems such as ERP implementation, tracking automation, and vendor return processes.
- May have responsibilities related to repurchasing materials.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in inventory, warehousing, or materials management, including at least 2 years in a leadership role within manufacturing or food production.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or related disciplines or equivalent experience.
- Advanced proficiency with ERP systems and inventory software, skilled in data-driven root cause analysis.
Success Factors
- Strategic thinker capable of addressing process gaps with scalable solutions beyond day-to-day operations.
- Proven ability managing hourly teams and collaborating with cross-functional colleagues.
- Certifications such as APICS CPIM/CSCP or Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt are preferred.
