Maintenance Planner

Job Overview

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the planning and scheduling of all maintenance tasks. This role encompasses developing, organizing, optimizing, analyzing, and closing diverse maintenance work orders.

The role also includes generating comprehensive reports on maintenance activities covering labor, material costs, total equipment expenses, adherence to schedules, and proactive maintenance efforts.

This position is based at our production facility located in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, requiring on-site presence five days per week. Relocation assistance is available for candidates currently residing in Alberta and Ontario.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the workflow to ensure all maintenance requests are accurately entered into the CMMS with complete and precise information for effective planning.
• Assign appropriate skills, cost centers, and clear instructions to work orders within the CMMS.
• Monitor maintenance progress and communicate statuses promptly to all relevant parties.
• Collaborate closely with maintenance technicians to guarantee timely and complete completion of work.
• Work jointly with Spare Parts Coordinators to develop and streamline kitting processes.
• Enhance maintenance planning and scheduling for predictive, preventive, routine, scheduled, and emergency operations.
• Contribute significantly to creating detailed and practical preventive maintenance (PM) procedures.
• Verify that all plant assets and necessary PMs are accurately reflected and maintained in the CMMS, including new equipment setup.
• Provide training to maintenance personnel on effective CMMS use, and track relevant Maintenance KPIs.
• Adhere strictly to company policies, GMPs, SOPs, and safety regulations, while actively promoting safe work practices among colleagues.
• Assist in the development of equipment bills of materials (BOMs) and perform any additional tasks assigned by management.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Completion of Secondary School diploma.
• A minimum of five years' experience working as a maintenance mechanic in industrial maintenance.
• Comprehensive technical expertise in industrial maintenance, including regulations, standards, and codes.
• Strong understanding of engineering concepts and maintenance methodologies.
• Proficient English communication skills in reading, writing, and speaking.
• Physical ability to regularly lift 20 pounds.
• Experience using CMMS software and Microsoft Office suite.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Prior experience in maintenance planning or scheduling is essential.
• Understanding of schedule adherence, importance of completing work orders, and cost implications.
• Adaptability to shifting priorities with professional judgment and data-driven decision making.
• Willingness to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Strong teamwork orientation with effective collaboration and communication with maintenance and production teams.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

Typical job activities include walking, sitting, talking, listening, reaching, and manual handling of objects and tools. Occasional driving to off-site meetings is required. Visual acuity for close work and device operation is necessary, as well as clear communication abilities.

The work environment includes exposure to loud noises, food-grade dust and odors, moving machinery, heavy equipment, industrial vehicles, heights, traffic, ammonia, oils, and electricity. Weather conditions can vary widely, including extreme cold and heat. Common allergens include fish, shellfish, nuts, eggs, wheat, soy, milk, and coconut.
