Position Overview
Operating with minimal supervision, the Parent Coach delivers outreach, screening, and intervention services within the community targeting pregnant and postpartum women dealing with substance use disorders or at risk for them. The role demands substantial travel throughout Houston and surrounding counties. Occasionally, evening and weekend commitments are required based on client needs. The workplace enforces a tobacco-free policy.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct outreach, screening, and intervention services in community settings focused on pregnant and postpartum women susceptible to or currently facing substance use challenges.
- Offer tailored services, referrals, and case management following thorough assessments for qualifying clients.
- Facilitate social parenting events and parenting support groups.
- Accurately document provided services and activities in the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and Clinical Management for Behavioral Health Services (CMBHS) systems.
- Attend scheduled trainings and meetings to support ongoing professional development.
- Assist with program data collection and submissions to support project objectives.
- Track and provide data to aid sustainability efforts.
- Maintain detailed records and complete all necessary documentation.
Educational and Professional Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health-related discipline is required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Credentials such as LCDC or Qualified Credentialed Counselor will be considered.
- Completion of trainings upon hire covering clinical aspects of pregnant/postpartum care, communicable diseases related to substance use, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD).
Licensure and Certifications
- Valid licensure from an accredited board (e.g., BHEC, DSHS) or eligibility as an appropriately supervised associate.
- Engagement in clinical supervision available post-hire.
- Active licensure options include Licensed Chemical and Drug Counselor (LCDC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC/LPC-A), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/LMSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT/LMFT-A).
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications are mandatory.
- If driving for Santa Maria Hostel business, must hold a valid Texas Driver’s License and proof of up-to-date insurance.
