Overview
The Strategic Communication team is dedicated to providing impactful communication and engagement strategies that advance departmental goals, engage Queensland communities, and effectively reach external audiences through targeted messaging and tailored channels.
Role Summary
In the role of Principal Advisor - Communications, you will lead a team of communication experts in delivering a full spectrum of services, including internal communication, stakeholder engagement, content management, and strategic corporate messaging. The position requires cultural sensitivity, particularly related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and a commitment to fostering inclusivity in alignment with the Human Rights Act 2019.
Key Duties
- Lead and mentor communication professionals to provide comprehensive communication services across the department.
- Collaborate with senior management to design, execute, and assess communication initiatives connecting stakeholders and the public with departmental work.
- Manage communication project delivery within budget and resource constraints, involving consultation with key stakeholders.
- Contribute to the formulation and evaluation of innovative communication strategies and oversee digital marketing and social media functions.
- Advise senior officials on communication matters, including campaign planning, crisis response, and issue management.
- Coordinate closely with the Media team to ensure consistent messaging across platforms.
- Implement departmental communication policies and enforce compliance with corporate governance, government policies, and editorial standards.
- Prepare complex submissions, reports, and official correspondence related to communication activities.
- Establish and sustain effective relationships with internal staff, ministerial offices, external stakeholders, and government entities.
- Assist with operational aspects such as logistics, human resources, finance, and procurement within the communication team.
- Drive ongoing improvements in communication strategies, processes, and systems through innovation.
- Uphold workplace health and safety, anti-discrimination, and equal opportunity principles.
