About the Role

New Energy is seeking a meticulous Project Accountant to join their Finance team at their New Plymouth, Taranaki location. This full-time permanent position (30-40 hours per week, Monday to Friday) offers the chance to play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate project financial management across the company's expanding operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Validate and process subcontractor payment claims following NZS 3910 contract standards.
  • Prepare and issue Payment Schedules complying with the Construction Contracts Act.
  • Monitor subcontractor retentions and facilitate the proper release of final retentions during the Defects Liability Period.
  • Handle the complete accounts payable workflow in Xero, including invoice entry, coding, reconciliation, three-way matching, and payment execution.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and address invoice discrepancies or queries promptly.
  • Serve as the primary contact for supplier and subcontractor account inquiries.
  • Assist the Finance Director with monthly reporting, budget variance analysis, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Support IT setup tasks for new and current employees, managing equipment, system access, and maintaining asset records.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Background in project accounting, contract administration, accounts payable, or related financial roles.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the capability to identify inconsistencies and uphold accuracy.
  • Experience using Xero accounting software and familiarity with financial systems.
