Overview

This is a permanent full-time position located at the Hervey Bay branch of Fraser Coast Regional Council under the Community & Culture department. The role is classified as Stream A Level 3, offering an annual salary of $83,245 plus superannuation.

Role Expectations

We are looking to hire a customer-oriented team player experienced in library circulation services who is comfortable using library management systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication capabilities and be capable of supporting daily library functions as well as guiding fellow staff and volunteers effectively.

The work is varied, involving problem-solving, assisting patrons in accessing services, and enhancing the library environment, perfect for individuals who enjoy dynamic interactions and making meaningful community contributions.

Work Schedule

  • Tuesday: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Pay Week 1 only)
  • Wednesday: 8:15 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Thursday: 9:15 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Friday and Saturday: 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM
  • RDO on Tuesday (Pay Week 2)
  • Not scheduled on Mondays or Sundays

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service while managing daily operational workflows within the library
  • Offer on-floor guidance to staff and volunteers including task distribution and handling routine concerns
  • Administer circulation services including loans, returns, transaction processing, record keeping, and reporting
  • Assist patrons with digital tools such as technology, equipment, and access to the catalogue and electronic resources
  • Contribute to promotional displays, ensure adherence to operational procedures, workplace health and safety standards, and service quality requirements

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in customer-facing library roles with a focus on circulation functions
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities coupled with advanced customer service and problem-solving techniques
  • Strong computer proficiency with automated library systems, databases, and customer service platforms
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations, capable of applying safety procedures and identifying hazards
  • Adaptable, cooperative team member with the capability to work constructively with all library stakeholders and embrace change

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of a current First Aid and CPR certificate
  • Diploma (AQF Level 5) in Library and Information Science
