About the Role

In this early-career engineering role, you will help improve core experiences and make it easier for people to find value in Notion. You’ll work on impactful problems with growing independence, write code used by millions, and own projects that influence product direction. You will collaborate closely with peers in design, product, and data to shape how people work in the future.

Notion is recruiting early-career engineers for multiple teams, and the recruiting team will match candidates with the group where they can contribute the most and align with their interests.

What You’ll Do

• Take ideas from concept through launch, then refine features using product insights and user feedback.
• Raise the speed, stability, and overall quality of high-traffic experiences used by millions of people and many organizations.
• Design and run experiments that improve activation, retention, collaboration, and revenue in partnership with design, data science, and research.
• Create internal tools and platform enhancements that help engineers deliver safely and efficiently.
• Help strengthen engineering culture through code quality, team practices, and a mindset of continuous learning and balanced decision-making.

Potential Areas of Work

• Core product: Build, improve, and maintain major product surfaces such as the editor, databases, sharing, and other workflow-critical features.
• AI and automation: Develop and integrate intelligent capabilities that make the product more context-aware, useful, and efficient.
• Growth and activation: Work on onboarding, discovery, and engagement features that help new users understand and adopt the product.
• Platform and infrastructure: Support backend systems that improve reliability, scalability, and performance as usage grows.

What You Need

• Less than two years of engineering experience.
• Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• A practical, customer-focused approach to solving technical problems.
• Ability to think through problems end-to-end, understand context clearly, and consider real-world impact.
• Comfort working through ambiguity and breaking complex challenges into maintainable solutions.
• An outcome-oriented view of technology, using tools and stacks to create user and business value rather than chasing trends.
• Familiarity with current AI-assisted development tools and a pragmatic mindset about choosing the right tool for the task.
• Clear communication, ownership of work, and initiative in moving projects forward without waiting for step-by-step instructions.

Nice to Have

• Experience with any part of the stack: React, TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres, or Elasticsearch.
• Interest in how technology and society shape one another, and in the responsibilities that come with building technology.
• Awareness of computing pioneers such as Ada Lovelace, Douglas Engelbart, and Alan Kay.

Compensation and Benefits

Notion offers competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits. Final pay depends on factors such as location, role scope, complexity, and the candidate’s experience and expertise. For positions in San Francisco or New York City, the estimated annual salary range is $130,000 to $150,000.
