Clinical Practice Educator

About the Role

The Clinical Practice Educator (CPE) plays a critical role in identifying training needs and delivering educational programs to students, newly hired personnel, and current non-medical employees (Band 1-6) within their division. Serving as a clinical expert and effective leader, the CPE acts as a role model, change facilitator, and supporter of workplace learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver 80% clinical duties outside standard staffing ratios, focusing on support for students, new staff, and postgraduates engaged in studies and research.
• Devote 20% of time assisting Associate Clinical Practice Educators (ACPEs) in determining educational needs and evaluating learning activities.
• Collaborate with other CPEs, Practice Development Education Leads (PDEL), management, matrons, and divisional leads to annually develop strategic education plans for non-medical staff.
• Foster a learning environment encouraging continuous personal and professional development aligned with the Oxford Model for exemplary nursing and midwifery and the NHS Change Model, promoting systematic, goal-oriented quality improvement.
• Plan, implement, and assess training for students, new starters, and existing staff, including orientation, preceptorship, and mentorship programs.
• Provide bedside and classroom teaching, supervise work-based learning, and enhance clinical knowledge and skills.
• Coordinate student placements and monitor progress with Divisional Practice Development and Education Leads.
• Collaborate with Link Lecturers and Learning Environment Leads to audit and improve learning environments for students and mentors.
