About the Company
Novotel Queenstown Lakeside is seeking a highly skilled and commercially focused Financial Controller to take the lead of the hotel’s finance function and collaborate closely with the Executive Leadership Team to enhance overall business outcomes.
Role Overview
This senior leadership position involves complete ownership of the hotel's financial management, ensuring adherence to New Zealand laws and owner reporting standards, while supporting operational excellence throughout the business.
Primary Responsibilities
- Direct the Finance Department, managing all financial activities.
- Compile accurate financial statements on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow operations.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and reports for owners.
- Ensure adherence to New Zealand taxation, financial reporting, and statutory requirements.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, supervise payroll, and handle banking processes.
- Maintain and improve internal control systems and processes.
- Work alongside department heads to boost financial performance and cost-efficiency.
- Administer annual budget preparations, external audits, and capital expenditure projects.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Finance team.
- Support strategic decisions through detailed financial analysis and commercial insights.
Candidate Requirements
- A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
- Professional certification such as CA or CPA, or equivalent qualifications.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in senior finance roles such as Financial Controller or Finance Manager, preferably within hospitality.
- Comprehensive understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and management accounting.
- Thorough knowledge of New Zealand financial, tax, and employment legislation.
- Familiarity with hotel financial systems and ERP software, with experience in SUN Systems, Opera PMS, Purchase Plus or similar considered an advantage.
- Strong analytical skills, effective communication, and proficient stakeholder management capabilities.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to influence operational decisions.
