Role Overview
We are seeking an inquisitive and analytically minded graduate who is passionate about converting data into impactful insights. Joining the WMCA Graduate Development Programme, you will engage in a well-structured early career pathway aimed at nurturing future public sector leaders with mentoring, training, networking, and practical experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, cleanse, and analyze data sourced internally and externally.
- Interpret complex datasets into understandable insights, reports, and presentations tailored for diverse audiences.
- Support monitoring of performance across vital programs and strategic priorities.
- Conduct research and analysis on regional employment, skills, productivity, and socioeconomic trends.
- Assist in developing uniform reporting tools and insight outputs across the department.
- Detect trends, patterns, and opportunities that enhance informed decision-making.
- Contribute to cross-departmental projects focusing on inclusion, sustainability, and digital transformation.
- Enhance technical skills in Excel, and gain exposure to Python, Power BI, and GIS software through provided training.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess at least a 2:2 degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in a related field, completed within the previous five years.
- Experience working collaboratively in teams through academia, volunteering, internships, or part-time employment.
- Proven experience in creating reports, presentations, or other structured communication for multiple stakeholders.
- Strong analytical aptitude with enthusiasm for data-driven decision support.
- Effective communication skills, capable of simplifying complex information.
- Good organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and a readiness to learn.
- Interest in data tools like Python, Power BI, or GIS, with formal training offered.
- Understanding or keen interest in how evidence shapes regional growth and public service execution.
Work Location
This position is based at 16 Summer Lane, Birmingham, B19 3SD, operating a hybrid model with a combination of office and home working as agreed with your manager.
Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates will participate in an assessment centre in August 2026 to demonstrate their capabilities through role-related activities. Further details will be provided post-application.
