Position Overview

We are recruiting Imaging Porters to join the team at the Brunel Building, Southmead Hospital. There are full-time positions (37.5 hours/week) and a part-time position (30 hours/week, Tuesday to Friday, 1pm to 9pm). This role requires working a rotating shift schedule, covering weekdays, evenings, nights, weekends, and bank holidays to support the 24/7 service.

The Imaging Porter plays an essential role in the patient experience, collaborating closely with radiographers, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities focus on safely transporting patients to and from the Imaging department and assisting with transfers between beds, chairs, wheelchairs, and examination tables.

Main Responsibilities

• Safely transport patients via wheelchair, beds, and trolleys to and from Imaging facilities.
• Escort ambulatory patients between wards and departments when necessary.
• Ensure patient comfort and observe their wellbeing during transfers.
• Adhere strictly to safety protocols and proper systems of work, with additional care for patient safety.
• Provide compassionate care, especially to patients who may be anxious or disadvantaged.
• Participate in urgent transfers of critically ill patients between wards, departments, and ICU.
• Assist with the movement of patients as requested by radiographers and nursing staff, helping them to sit up or lie down for procedures.
• Transport medical specimens from Radiology to pathology departments.
• Collect and deliver departmental post and confidential records securely across the site.
• Check the condition and safety of wheelchairs and trolleys, report faults, and perform basic maintenance.
• Handle and transport expensive Radiology equipment as required.
• Assist in the administration of medical gases under supervision during patient transfers.
• Support security for special needs or at-risk patients by liaising with wards and security teams.
• Maintain infection control standards by cleaning equipment and trolleys appropriately.
• Contribute to equipment audits and complete related records as requested.
• Report incidents, injuries, or near misses promptly and fill out necessary documentation.
• Respond effectively to emergency and security situations as needed.
• Participate in annual training updates including manual handling, resuscitation, and infection control.
• Collaborate to implement new technologies and working methods to improve service delivery.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Educational achievement of NVQ Level 2 or 2 GCSEs (Grade C/Level 4 or equivalent) including English and Maths, or relevant experience.
• Strong communication skills, with an ability to multitask and produce high-quality work under pressure.
• Experience prioritizing tasks and working both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Preferably some knowledge of IT systems and experience in patient or customer-focused environments.
• Physical fitness suitable for a role requiring significant walking and patient movement.
