Position Overview
Join Dynacare as a Laboratory Assistant Float, contributing to nationwide care by obtaining high-quality blood and other patient specimens. This full-time permanent role is based onsite across multiple locations including Brampton, Mississauga, Oakville, and Toronto, emphasizing patient care, teamwork, and quality processes. Shift hours are mainly day shifts Monday to Friday between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm with a half day on Saturdays. Certification from MLPAO/CSMLS is strongly recommended.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional patient experiences by providing empathetic and professional interaction during sample collection and testing.
- Accurately input data relating to patients and tests for Ministry of Health requisitions.
- Collect blood and other types of specimens using proficient venipuncture techniques aligned with company values.
- Process various tests including ECGs, Holter monitoring, paternity tests, and urine, drug, and breath alcohol collections.
- Prepare specimens and documentation for entry and transport according to standard operating procedures and regulatory standards.
- Safeguard confidential patient information and contribute to meeting quality and compliance metrics.
Qualifications and Skills
- Completion of Secondary School and a recognized Laboratory Assistant training or Medical Lab Assistance course with phlebotomy specialization.
- Ability to provide calm and reassuring care to anxious patients during specimen collection.
- Strong customer service focus with genuine concern for patient health and well-being.
- Capability to handle deadlines and prioritize tasks independently in a detail-oriented manner.
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written, sufficient for clear communication with patients.
Work Environment and Conditions
- Employment within a medical laboratory setting.
- Physical requirements include lifting up to 30 pounds and performing repetitive movements with frequent computer use.
- Work involves periods of standing, sitting, and bending intermittently.
