Laboratory Assistant

As a Laboratory Assistant at Dynacare, you will be instrumental in delivering high-quality patient care by collecting blood and other biological samples and supporting diagnostic testing processes. Key Responsibilities

• Expertly perform venipuncture and other specimen collection techniques to obtain quality blood samples and specimens.
• Conduct additional patient tests including ECGs, Holter monitor hookups, and collections for paternity, urine, drug, and breath alcohol tests.
• Accurately input patient and test information required for Ministry of Health requisitions into data systems.
• Manage specimen sorting, labeling, and preparation in accordance with standard operating procedures, ensuring samples are ready for laboratory analysis and transport.
• Maintain stringent confidentiality and security of patient information at all times.
• Contribute to meeting departmental quality goals and adherence to regulatory compliance standards.

Candidate Requirements

• Completion of secondary education and a recognized Laboratory Assistant training or Medical Laboratory Assistance certificate with an emphasis on phlebotomy.
• Strong customer service skills coupled with genuine care and empathy for patients, especially in managing anxious individuals with patience and reassurance.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
• High attention to detail with the ability to work precisely and methodically.
• Proficient in English communication, both oral and written, to explain procedures clearly to patients.

Working Environment and Conditions

• Work takes place within a medical laboratory setting.
• Must be capable of lifting up to 30 pounds when necessary.
• Frequent computer usage involving repetitive motions.
• Work involves long periods of sitting and standing as well as bending.

Additional Information

• Position is full-time, permanent with regular hours Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
• Work location is on-site at 466 Goderich St., Port Elgin, Ontario.
• Immediate start date preferred.
• MLPAO/CSMLS certification is highly recommended but not explicitly required.
• The hourly wage for this role ranges from $21 to $24.75, dependent on experience and educational background.
