About the Role
Miles Technologies is seeking a Lead Database Administrator to act as the strategic architect of our data infrastructure, connecting traditional on-premise systems with scalable Azure cloud solutions. This role demands a visionary leader who can innovate beyond routine maintenance to enable business growth through cutting-edge database strategies.
You will drive the multi-tenant SaaS database architecture, oversee system health, and lead a skilled team of DBAs and developers. Your expertise will be crucial in managing complex performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery, while guiding key migrations and enhancing platform security and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement a long-term database strategy aligned with company growth and product evolution.
- Lead architectural planning for secure, scalable, and cost-effective multi-tenant SaaS databases.
- Oversee operations and optimization of both Azure SQL Managed Instances and on-premise SQL Server systems to ensure stability.
- Design and maintain high availability and disaster recovery protocols to comply with stringent SLAs for performance and uptime.
- Plan and execute seamless cloud migration from on-premise infrastructures to Azure, minimizing risks.
- Continuously enhance system performance through sophisticated query tuning, indexing strategies, and concurrency management.
- Establish and enforce best practices and standards for database deployment to guarantee safety and quality.
- Provide mentorship and leadership to teams of DBAs and developers, fostering technical excellence and career growth.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in database administration managing high-availability environments across legacy on-premise SQL Server and Azure SQL Managed Instances.
- At least 3 years in leadership roles managing and mentoring DBA and developer teams.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Managed Instance database administration and modernization.
- Proven capabilities in designing and managing scalable, secure multi-tenant SaaS database architectures.
- Deep expertise in performance engineering, including query optimization and execution plan analysis.
- Comprehensive understanding of high availability and disaster recovery strategies for database environments.
- Strong project planning, ownership of system reliability, and prioritization skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities with experience simplifying technical concepts for diverse stakeholders.
