Job Overview
Join the Mortuary department at Frimley Park Hospital as a Mortuary Administration Assistant and play a vital role in end-of-life care. This position demands excellent communication, strong customer service skills, problem-solving ability, and a calm, enthusiastic demeanor.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day mortuary operations including data entry and handling of incoming requests efficiently.
- Ensure adherence to Data Protection Act regulations and maintain confidentiality.
- Work within both office settings and the clinical mortuary environment, upholding hygiene and infection control standards.
- Contribute to mortuary storage management, ensuring compliance with Human Tissue Authority (HTA) guidelines and local protocols.
- Support financial stewardship by minimizing resource waste in the NHS and Pathology departments.
- Coordinate with Mortuary Technicians, conduct mortuary tours for internal teams and visitors, and assist in training porters and funeral directors in mortuary procedures and equipment.
- Handle receipt and release of deceased persons in line with departmental and HM Coroner requirements, ensuring proper identification and dignity.
- Maintain accurate mortuary records in compliance with HTA legislation and Coroner’s office needs.
- Potentially participate in an on-call rota to manage releases, community death acceptance, contingency plans, and retrieval team coordination.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to effectively manage refrigerated storage spaces on-site.
Working Hours
The role involves a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 2 GCSEs or equivalent qualifications required.
- Further education qualifications are favorable but not mandatory.
- Experience in mortuary, funeral director environments, or busy healthcare data entry systems is desirable.
Skills and Knowledge
- Efficient and well-organized with strong attention to detail.
- Able to prioritize tasks effectively and work under pressure.
- Excellent punctuality and a friendly approach.
- Strong willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Knowledgeable about data protection principles.
- Understanding of NHS and Trust values is a plus.
