Project Manager

Position summary

This role is for a field-oriented project delivery lead who will oversee utility infrastructure work such as distribution rebuilds, substation builds, and transmission improvements. The position spans the full project lifecycle, including early contractor involvement, pre-construction preparation, constructability review, engineering coordination, procurement, construction, commissioning, and final closeout.

The Project Manager partners with clients, engineers, procurement staff, subcontractors, site leaders, and internal project controls teams to deliver EPC projects successfully. The role requires a strong level of independence and accountability for safe, efficient, and economical execution while keeping scope, schedule, quality, commercial targets, and client expectations aligned.

Project planning and execution

• Direct delivery activities from early contractor involvement through construction completion and closeout.
• Coordinate day-to-day and weekly planning with field crews, subcontractors, and site leadership.
• Oversee site mobilization, including permits, materials, and equipment scheduling.
• Review schedule performance and put recovery plans in place when progress slips.
• Keep field execution aligned with the broader delivery strategy.

Engineering, procurement, and construction coordination

• Manage coordination across engineering, purchasing, and construction functions to support EPC delivery.
• Follow up on engineering outputs and material status to maintain construction sequencing.
• Spot and escalate design, supply, or execution issues that could slow field work.
• Verify that construction work follows issued-for-construction drawings and project requirements.

Commercial management and cost control

• Maintain oversight of budgets, forecasts, and cost reporting across the project life cycle.
• Track production, quantities, and subcontractor results against scope and budget.
• Support change management by validating scope, pricing changes, and client approvals.
• Identify commercial risks and help apply mitigation actions that protect project results.

Safety and environmental leadership

• Apply company safety programs and ensure all field activities comply with them.
• Lead safety participation, site audits, and reviews of incidents and near misses.
• Encourage early hazard identification and the completion of corrective actions.
• Make sure environmental obligations are built into planning and subcontractor scope.

Stakeholder and client management

• Serve as the main contact for clients, Indigenous partners, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
• Lead project meetings, progress reviews, and milestone reporting.
• Handle issue resolution while keeping field work aligned with client expectations.
• Coordinate communication among field leadership, engineering, procurement, and project controls teams.

Quality assurance and project controls

• Ensure quality systems, inspection and test plans, and turnover deliverables are executed and completed.
• Coordinate field verification, redlines, and as-built documentation.
• Support project controls tasks such as progress measurement, reporting, and schedule updates.
• Confirm compliance with contract obligations and quality standards.

Qualifications and skills

You should bring 5 to 8+ years of progressive project management experience in utility, civil, or infrastructure construction. Experience leading projects through ECI, pre-construction, and EPC delivery phases is required. A strong background in field execution, construction coordination, and multi-discipline delivery is important, along with experience handling subcontractors, schedules, budgets, and changing site conditions.

You should also understand construction drawings, scopes of work, and contract terms, and be comfortable using project systems such as Procore, SAP, MS Project, and similar reporting tools. A diploma or degree in construction management, engineering technology, or a related field is preferred. PMP, CET, or a similar certification would be an advantage. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are needed, along with the willingness to travel and support active or remote project sites.
