You will work on real-time logistics, resilient infrastructure, and marketplace optimization to help scale Deliveroo’s growth.

We are seeking a Software Engineer for our London office, working in a hybrid model with approximately three days onsite per week. In this role, you will develop and sustain high-performance backend systems crucial for powering our hyper-local marketplace, ensuring a smooth experience for millions of users.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend services for our real-time marketplace, using programming languages such as Go, Ruby, or Python.
• Enhance code quality and architecture through in-depth technical discussions and thorough code reviews within your team.
• Improve system dependability by focusing on monitoring, visibility, and production health.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to identify integration possibilities and influence the technical roadmap for your domain.
• Play an active part in recruitment by conducting interviews and mentoring fellow engineers.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Strong emphasis on delivering clean, readable, maintainable, and well-tested software for long-term use.
• Experience developing web applications in modern languages like Go, Ruby/Rails, Python, Scala, or Rust.
• Solid knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Understanding of web architecture at scale with experience in high-traffic environments (e.g., 20,000 requests per minute or more).
• Familiarity with NoSQL data stores or caching layers such as Redis, DynamoDB, or Elasticsearch.
• A problem-solving approach especially suited to complex logistical or marketplace challenges.
