Core Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and report on external audit assignments, ensuring adherence to EY methodology, ISA, and regulatory mandates with high-quality outputs.
• Coordinate audit fieldwork at client premises, managing collaboration between engagement teams, clients, and other EY services for timely completion.
• Assess audit risks and complex accounting issues, provide actionable guidance to teams, and escalate critical concerns appropriately.
• Review team members' audit documentation to guarantee completeness, evidentiary support, and compliance prior to final approval.
• Adopt a pragmatic, solution-oriented approach to resolving audit challenges and enhancing client service.
• Identify client process, control, and reporting improvement opportunities; draft clear, impactful management recommendations.
• Foster robust client relationships while exploring avenues to link clients with relevant EY offerings.

Team Leadership and Development

• Efficiently organize engagement teams by defining roles, responsibilities, schedules, and expectations clearly.
• Mentor junior staff with timely feedback and contribute to their performance evaluations.
• Encourage teamwork, collaboration, and knowledge exchange across projects.
• Deliver hands-on training to enhance audit technical expertise, professional judgment, and familiarity with EY frameworks.
• Champion an inclusive, high-achieving team atmosphere that supports continuous learning and quality delivery.

Skills and Attributes

• In-depth technical proficiency in IFRS, ISA, and audit quality standards.
• Strong grasp of audit quality controls, risk mitigation, and compliance procedures.
• Advanced technical judgment in complex audit sectors including revenue recognition, financial instruments, estimates, and taxation.
• Excellent project management for handling multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
• Effective communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Capacity to lead teams, manage performance, and keep leadership informed on audit insights and risks.
• Commercial insight into clients' business environments and sectors.
• Familiarity with audit digital tools, data analytics, and technology-enabled audit techniques.

Qualifications and Experience

• Fully qualified accountant (ACCA or equivalent).
• Minimum 5 to 7 years of external audit experience, with proven track record in leading audit engagements and managing teams; prior manager-level experience preferred.
• Experienced in delivering audits compliant with IFRS, ISA, and local regulations.
• Knowledge of Malawi's regulatory and business landscape is a plus.
• Experience from international professional services environments is advantageous.
• Exposure to audit technology and digital analytics is beneficial.
