Barista

Overview

The Barista role involves crafting and serving superior coffee and beverages while providing warm, knowledgeable, and engaging service to guests. This position merges technical coffee expertise, product knowledge, hygiene standards, and the confidence to suggest beverages and food pairings that elevate the customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare espresso-based drinks, manual brews, teas, and specialty beverages following established recipes.
• Maintain uniformity in flavor, temperature, presentation, and serving size.
• Adjust espresso settings including grind size, dose, and yield as needed.
• Possess an understanding of fundamental coffee principles such as roast characteristics, grind calibration, extraction techniques, and milk texturing.
• Serve beverages promptly and accurately, especially during busy periods.
• Welcome guests warmly and foster a friendly café atmosphere.
• Provide clear explanations of menu items, ingredients, flavor profiles, and brewing methods.
• Suggest drinks and food combinations based on customer preferences in a natural and non-intrusive manner.
• Manage guest feedback professionally and escalate concerns appropriately.
• Handle food items following hygiene and safety regulations.
• Coordinate effectively with kitchen personnel regarding orders and modifications.
• Set up and close the barista station in accordance with standard operating procedures.
• Keep coffee machines, grinders, counters, and service areas clean and well-maintained.
• Perform daily equipment cleaning routines including backflushing and basic maintenance.
• Comply consistently with food safety and hygiene standards.
• Track inventory levels for coffee beans, milk, syrups, disposables, and other related items.
• Report stock shortages and assist in stock rotation and storage management.
• Minimize waste by adhering to correct preparation and storage protocols.
• Collaborate with fellow baristas, service staff, and management to maintain smooth operations.
• Help train junior baristas or trainees as required.
• Engage in tastings, product briefings, and continuous training sessions.
• Adhere strictly to all operational SOPs, brand standards, and training guidelines.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Basic to intermediate skills in preparing espresso and milk-based beverages.
• Knowledge of coffee beans, brewing techniques, and relevant equipment.

Qualifications and Experience

• Prior experience as a Barista is preferred but training can be provided.
