About the Role
The New York Police Department seeks a senior executive to lead its data science, business intelligence, and analytics initiatives as Chief Analytics Officer (CAO). This role involves transforming complex data sets into practical operational insights and defining strategic analytics priorities across the Department.
The CAO will have expansive authority to evaluate and refine the Department’s analytics strategy, working collaboratively across bureaus to enhance the use of analytics and related tools, assess current analytic capabilities to ensure they meet organizational needs, partner closely with IT leadership to evaluate existing and future technology solutions, promote breaking down data silos, and address the analytic requirements of all bureaus.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the enterprise-wide vision for data science, predictive analytics, and business intelligence, including creating user-friendly data visualization engines accessible without technical expertise.
- Collaborate with the Deputy Commissioner for Strategic Initiatives to convert data analytics into measurable goals aligning with the Department’s mission.
- Lead cross-disciplinary teams comprising data scientists and analysts, providing strong managerial oversight.
- Coordinate with the Deputy Commissioner of the Information Technology Bureau/Chief Information Officer to design and implement effective data infrastructure and reporting tools.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Business, or a closely related field is required; a Master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
- Over 10 years of leadership experience managing analytics, data science, or statistical functions within city government or law enforcement environments.
Preferred Skills
- Proven ability to utilize data insights for the formulation and execution of data strategies and policies.
- Advanced proficiency in machine learning techniques, statistical modeling, data architecture, and cloud computing platforms.
- Strong executive communication capabilities, adept in change management and guiding cross-functional teams.
