Position Overview

The role of Data & Automation Analyst involves managing key components of IT Financial Management data and automation processes while collaborating on technical outreach and pre-sales efforts related to data, AI, and automation initiatives. Responsibilities include developing and operating data pipelines, automating regular workflows, supporting analytical dashboards, and assisting in early-stage solution demonstrations. This position suits candidates who enjoy both hands-on technical work with data and close interaction with customers and strategic business initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain data pipelines for ingestion, cleansing, and transformation of data from various sources including general ledger/finance systems, HR and organizational structures, asset inventories, cloud billing data across AWS, Azure, GCP, and IT service management tools.
Create standardized, reusable ETL/ELT workflows using SQL, Python, or similar technologies.
Establish data quality validations and monitoring mechanisms addressing balance checks, anomaly detection, and mapping completeness.
Contribute to and uphold a unified data model tailored for cost modeling and financial reporting.
Design and sustain dashboards and reports using platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar, presenting insights on IT expenditures, trend analysis, and cloud cost allocations.
Collaborate with leadership to transform raw datasets into actionable and accessible visual representations.
Support technical prospecting by assessing client data readiness, mapping business challenges to data/AI/automation use cases, and constructing prototypes and demonstrations to illustrate solution capabilities.
Assist in preparing technical sections of proposals, statements of work, and sales materials, including diagrams and benchmarks.
Engage in the development of standards, playbooks, and templates to standardize data integration, validation, updating, and reporting practices.
Utilize design thinking to simplify workflows and ensure user-centric data solutions.
Perform additional duties as needed based on project requirements.

Required Qualifications

Between two to five years of experience in fields such as data engineering, analytics engineering, or business intelligence development.
Advanced skills in SQL and working knowledge of relational databases or data warehouse environments.
Hands-on experience with scripting or automation tools, for example, Python, dbt, or Airflow.
Proficiency in developing dynamic reports and dashboards using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
Comfort with structured financial and operational datasets including general ledger, cost centers, HR data, and usage metrics.

Preferred Skills and Traits

Familiarity with cloud billing datasets and IT service management or configuration management database tools.
Experience working with AI/ML workflows, API integrations, or robotic process automation technologies.
Previous engagement in startup or early-stage business environments.
Located in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area with ability to attend occasional onsite meetings.
A proactive self-starter attitude with capability for quickly assimilating new domains and excellent communication skills translating complex technical topics for diverse audiences.
A user-focused design thinking approach and a systems-oriented mindset.
