Engineering Manager

Position Summary

A leading main contractor in Qatar is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to oversee and direct all engineering and technical facets of a major building construction project. The appointee will be accountable for managing the entire engineering lifecycle from the project's start to completion, ensuring that all technical documents are properly coordinated, submitted, approved, and handed over to the construction team in line with scheduled timelines.

Key Duties

• Guide and supervise the project's Engineering Department, comprising architects, structural, MEP, BIM engineers, and document control staff.
• Formulate and execute the engineering work plan aligning with the overall project timeline.
• Oversee preparation, review, coordination, and distribution of all engineering deliverables including shop drawings, models, material submittals, method statements, and technical queries.
• Facilitate multidisciplinary coordination across architectural, structural, civil, MEP, façade, interior fit-out, and specialized systems.
• Conduct and lead coordination meetings with consultants, clients, designers, and subcontractors to resolve technical challenges and ensure constructability.
• Analyze IFC drawings and contract documents to pinpoint inconsistencies or design conflicts.
• Ensure comprehensive BIM coordination activities, including model reviews and clash detection, are completed pre-construction.
• Collaborate with Procurement and Planning teams to confirm timely approvals and conform to construction sequencing and milestones.
• Manage engineering interfaces relating to subcontractors and specialist suppliers, ensuring proper issuance of approved drawings to site.
• Monitor engineering performance indicators, submission logs, and productivity metrics.
• Provide technical support to commercial and contractual teams regarding claims and variations while ensuring adherence to project specifications, local laws, and codes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Structural Engineering, or relevant fields.
• Between 15 and 20 years of experience in building construction projects.
• At least 10 years of engineering or technical management experience within major main contracting companies.
• Proven track record managing multidisciplinary engineering teams on large-scale projects.
• Strong familiarity with technical submission processes and consultant approvals.
• Mandatory prior experience working in Qatar or GCC countries.

Additional Qualifications

• MMUP (UPDA) registration in Qatar is preferred.
• Experience with high-rise buildings, commercial, hospitality, healthcare, mixed-use, or mega projects is advantageous.
• Knowledgeable of Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS), Qatar National Building Code, QatarEnergy regulations, and international standards.
• PMP certification is considered beneficial.

Technical Skills

• Deep understanding of contractor engineering workflows and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Proficient with BIM coordination and model review software.
• Experience with document management platforms such as Aconex or ACC.
• Competent in AutoCAD, Revit (for coordination), Navisworks, and Microsoft Office suite.

Important Note

This vacancy is strictly aimed at professionals with extensive experience in main contractor engineering management. Candidates predominantly experienced in engineering design or design consultancy without exposure to contractor-side implementation and coordination will not be considered for this role.
