Financial Controller

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and commercially savvy Financial Controller to join Toshiba's Smart Metering Division. Reporting directly to the division head, you will provide essential financial leadership, partner with the business, ensure statutory compliance, and deliver detailed financial analysis to guide strategic decisions.

This hands-on and diverse position offers substantial interaction with senior leaders both in the UK and Japan. You will be instrumental in maintaining strong financial controls, fostering continuous improvement, and supplying high-quality management information to support the division's expansion and success.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead accurate and timely financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
• Offer financial and commercial advice to divisional leadership by identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to enhance business outcomes.
• Oversee treasury, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed asset management.
• Prepare and review monthly forecasts, annual budgeting, profit & loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
• Manage statutory accounts preparation, coordinate external audits, and ensure corporate compliance.
• Ensure adherence to UK accounting standards, IFRS/US GAAP, and corporate reporting policies.
• Handle tax and VAT compliance, collaborating with external advisors as needed.
• Support and mentor a Financial Accountant through coaching and development.
• Drive finance projects and ongoing improvements throughout the division.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including senior teams in the UK and Japan.

Candidate Profile

Success in this position requires a qualified accountant with robust technical knowledge, strong commercial insight, and excellent stakeholder management abilities.

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
• Extensive experience in financial or management accounting.
• Proven skills in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• Familiarity with statutory accounts, audit practices, and financial controls.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial software systems.
• Aptitude to prioritize tasks and meet stringent deadlines.

Preferred:

• Experience within multinational companies.
• Knowledge of Oracle Financials system.
• Exposure to international stakeholders and diverse reporting obligations.
