About Swissport and the Role

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Ramp Services Trainer to join our Auckland Airport team. This role is crucial in cultivating skilled frontline teams who can safely and efficiently manage aircraft turnaround processes. You will leverage your extensive ramp operations experience to coach and train new and current employees in operational procedures, equipment use, and client standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Create a supportive, safe, and inclusive learning environment that boosts employee confidence and skill development.
- Deliver theoretical, practical, and on-the-job training for both new recruits and existing Ramp Services staff.
- Conduct competency-based evaluations, practical demonstrations, mentorship shifts, and refresher sessions.
- Train and assess personnel across relevant ramp duties based on your credentials and authorizations.
- Provide hands-on coaching in areas like aircraft turnaround protocols, baggage and cargo handling, equipment usage, and airside safety practices.
- Assist employees in completing eLearning courses and ensure understanding is applied in daily operations.
- Utilize effective facilitation methods tailored to varying adult learning styles and operational demands.
- Maintain engaging, inclusive, and positive training sessions that foster teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Keep thorough and timely records of training activities, assessments, and related documentation.
- Perform regular reviews of training administration and quality standards to identify areas of enhancement.
- Promote ongoing improvements in frontline training and champion a culture valuing learning, development, and safety.
- Collaborate closely with Ramp Services leadership and stakeholders to align training with current and future operational needs.
Safety, Security, and Compliance
- Deliver all training in compliance with aviation industry standards, airport and client rules, and Swissport procedures.
- Advocate and reinforce safe work practices including manual handling, airside vehicle operation, equipment safety, and aircraft turnaround operations.
- Incorporate Human Factors principles within training and operational decision-making processes.
- Exemplify Swissport's safety, security, and compliance behaviors consistently.
- Model and support a workplace culture focused on safety, integrity, inclusivity, equality, and fairness.
- Support a zero-tolerance stance on bullying, discrimination, harassment, and unsafe conduct.
Candidate Profile
- Proven hands-on experience in airport Ramp Services, Ground Handling, or related aviation operational roles.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ramp operations including aircraft turnaround, baggage and cargo handling, ground support equipment, and airside safety protocols.
- Experience in conducting workplace training, coaching, mentorship, or competency assessments within operational settings.
- Strong ability to clearly communicate procedures and offer practical feedback.
- Sound understanding of occupational health and safety as applied to ramp operations.
- Detail-oriented with proficiency in maintaining training records and documentation accurately.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with capability to build trust with frontline staff and leaders.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Proactive, hands-on attitude suited to a fast-paced airport environment.
- Leadership qualities with a commitment to lead by example.
- Flexible availability for early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and public holidays as operational needs dictate.
Previous roles such as Ramp Trainer, Workplace Trainer, Ramp Supervisor, Leading Hand, or senior Ramp Services personnel are highly valued.
